Take Back the Night Rally set for Oct. 10

The fifth annual Take Back the Night March and Rally on Oct. 10 intends to spread the word against female domestic violence by holding a rally and march at North Dakota State College of Science campus.
"It's an awareness activity to protest violence against women," said Kathy Mauch, Three Rivers Crisis Center advocate for NDSCS. "It's for men, women and children so that they can be here to walk, listen to the speaker and show support for those victims in our community." Mauch said the message needs to get out that violence is not limited to big cities or poverty areas. "Violence covers all ethnic groups, all social classes and all income levels. It's certainly here in North Dakota," Mauch said.
Featured speaker Kim Carlson will discuss the challenges she faced during her own nine year abusive relationship. A mother of two, Carlson was pregnant with her third child when she decided to break ties with her husband and move on. Shortly after her child was born, she renewed the relationship. The sequence of events culminated with her husband threatening to kill her. The march starts outside the Student Center at 5:30 p.m. Carlson will begin her talk at 6 p.m. at the Stern Cultural Center.
