The Richland County Historical Society will launch its new season, opening its doors for the first time since October on Sunday, April 20 from 1:30-4 p.m.

Sunday will be an open house for the museum and the regular schedule is Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sundays from 1-4 p.m. until fall.

"We're hoping they'll bring their families," said Marjo Johnson, Richland County Historical Society secretary.

The open house will be held in the East Room at the museum but visitors are welcome to tour the museum during the event as well.

Johnson said there will be several tables set up, for which many have volunteered to bring in collector items to show during the open house. So far, Johnson expects items such as quilts, belt buckles, baseball cards, antique kitchen utensils and much more.

"We're hoping everyone who comes in will sign our large book," said Johnson.

The historical society's guest book is the largest in the world, printed by the Globe Gazette Printing Company in 1938. Currently, the book is about half full of signatures.

"I'm sure they'll be signing it long past my days," said Johnson.

At this year's season opening, the historical society has several new things visitors can see.

A room in the basement that wasn't open to the public before and served as storage for the museum is now open to explore.

"As you can see, it didn't take us long to fill it," said Johnson.

The room holds a variety of items including irons, scales, miscellaneous old school items, cabbage slicers and much more.

"I'm sure there's a lot in this room that people haven't seen before," Johnson said.

Although the museum accumulates many new things while closed for the season their latest additions include a variety of children's clothing and an antique wedding gown.

One of the museum's bigger purchases in a long time was a furnace and air conditioning system. Johnson said it's beneficial and well worth it because it will help preservation of the historic materials in the basement.

Johnson invites visitors of all ages to the open house Sunday, where there will be six door prize drawings — three for adults and three for the children. Johnson said someone could leave the event with an item of significant historical value.

A lunch will be served and the day's events come at no cost to participants.

" Its now March 2009 and I still get calls from that number (905-323-3900). I get a call from them nearly every week. I have call display and recognize the number now and don't answer it. But what I'm wondering is why they've been allowed to go on this long? They must still be making a substantial profit on the backs of un-suspecting citizens to continue with this scam!! I think Telus is and has been aware of this problem but can't be bothered to just simply "disconnect" this number! Either that or they too are profitting! That would'nt surprise me "
