The city of Fairmount has its roots deeply planted in the soil.
Early pioneers came to the area excited by the flat land, the possibility of raising a family and the beautiful bottomland which promised bountiful crops.
From it’s early years as a struggling settlement to the day it was declared a city, Fairmount has maintained its promise of growth.
The city is celebrating its 125th Anniversary June 28. Arlen Spear, committee member, said the anniversary committee has been working on events for this landmark festival since the beginning of the year. Because they have no idea how many people to plan for, the entire community joins together inviting people to help them celebrate.
There will be town tours, the school and senior center will be open to look through and dining is available at Doug’s Bar, 1901 Club and Cenex. “The goal of this day is for everyone to have a good time and see what Fairmount is all about,”Spear said.
The events are as follows:
1-5 p.m. People Mover Town Tours - starting at the senior center, the tour will highlight many of the town’s beautiful features;
1-5 p.m. All Fairmount Alumni Social - at both the Fairmount Community Center Legion room and the Fairmount Senior Citizens Center. The school will be open for tours;
2 p.m. Kiddie Parade - prelude to the 125th Anniversary parade. Children are asked to meet at the school “U;”
2 p.m.- 125th Anniversary
Parade - immediately following kiddie parade;
3 p.m.Youngster Scavenger Hunt and Games - meet at the park by the school.

supper from 5-7 p.m. at the
Community Center. Spear
said this meal was by reserva-
tion only and all available tick-
ets have already been pur-
chased. However, the city’s
restaurants are open for busi-
ness and will gladly serve a de-
licious meal,he said.
“We invite everyone to Fair-
mount this Saturday,”he said.
“We hope you stay for the day.”
