The city of Fairmount has its roots deeply planted in the soil.

Early pioneers came to the area excited by the flat land, the possibility of raising a family and the beautiful bottomland which promised bountiful crops.

From it’s early years as a struggling settlement to the day it was declared a city, Fairmount has maintained its promise of growth.

St. John's school age kids held a sidewalk lemonade sale Wednesday to raise money for the new orangutans exhibit at Chahinkapa Zoo. Betty Pawlak was the first customer of the day, greeted from left by Kobe Thimjon, Hayley Gefre and Zach Bellmore. Daily News photo by Jennifer Johnson.

The city is celebrating its 125th Anniversary June 28. Arlen Spear, committee member, said the anniversary committee has been working on events for this landmark festival since the beginning of the year. Because they have no idea how many people to plan for, the entire community joins together inviting people to help them celebrate.

There will be town tours, the school and senior center will be open to look through and dining is available at Doug’s Bar, 1901 Club and Cenex. “The goal of this day is for everyone to have a good time and see what Fairmount is all about,”Spear said.

The events are as follows:

  • 1-5 p.m. People Mover Town Tours - starting at the senior center, the tour will highlight many of the town’s beautiful features;

    chased. However, the city’s

    restaurants are open for busi-

    ness and will gladly serve a de-

    licious meal,he said.

      " Mr Smith owes the Geffres an apology? How about the Geffres apologize to the community of Hankinson. In two short years that family has torn apart a school, a community, family and friends. They have showed no respect for Hankinson. Hankinson is not their community! It's time for the Geffres to move on. "

      " There is more to this than just the Geffre's complaints and Jess Smith knows it, why doesn't he just come clean about everything and all complaints there has been on Gravalin in the past three years,he has been covering up and sweeping under the rug so to speak. This isn't just about parents that didn't think their girls got to play enough. Shouldn't the first duty of his position be to protect our children. "
