Meet new faculty in Wahpeton

Students starting the year in Wahpeton have already noticed a few new faces in front of the classroom, but the rest of the community has yet to be introduced. This is the first part in a series featuring new faculty on both sides of the river.
Central Elementary:
Lyndsy Gegelman, fifth grade teacher, graduated from the University of North Dakota in 2007. During the spring, she was a substitute teacher in the Twin Cities area and also taught summer school there. Gegelman said she looks forward to gaining teaching experience and getting involved in the community.
Wahpeton Middle School:
Kristen Saxon, physical education and health teacher, earned her bachelor's degree three years ago in physical education and health from Minot State University. Saxon spent one year working at an after-school program in Williston before she received her master's degree at North Dakota State University. While she worked toward her degree, she was an assistant teacher for wellness classes. Saxon also spent some time coaching softball at Valley City State University.
A native of Estevan, Saskatchewan, Canada, Saxon said she is excited about meeting the kids and faculty.
Janet Helgoth, learning center instructor, attended the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. She has spent the last 21 years teaching intermediate grades at Elkhorn Public Schools in Omaha. Helgoth is from Ashland, Neb.
Wahpeton Senior High School:
Dawn Swenson, chemistry and anatomy teacher, graduated with a bachelor's degree in chemistry education from Minnesota State University Moorhead, Minn., in 2007. Swenson worked at the Upper Bound Program this summer through the University of North Dakota. The six-week program is intended to provide first generation college students with extra credit classes in science, language arts and math. Swenson, a native of Moorhead, Minn., also spent her spring months substitute teaching in the Fargo-Moorhead area.
Mandy Miranowski, chemistry I and anatomy instructor, attended Minnesota State University Moorhead in Minnesota. After she graduated in December of 2007, she was a substitute teacher in the Fargo-Moorhead area. This summer, she taught science courses for the Upward Bound Program through the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks. Miranowski is from Moorhead.
