When fall rolls around one major event comes to high schooler’s minds —homecoming. Last week students at Richland 44 celebrated homecoming with a variety of activities. The dress up days were formal day, twin day, retro day, toga/stoplight day, and school spirit day.

Students had great participation in these dress up days and there were quite a few creative outfits! Homecoming festivities were kicked off with coronation on Monday afternoon. Queen candidates this year were: Alyssa Bolme daughter of Jeff and Kathy Bolme, Ashley Freeberg daughter of Mike and Benae Freeberg and Cindy and the late Willy Willows, Alexis Hage daughter of Brad and Leslie Hage, Shelby Kinneberg daughter of Matt and Pam Kinneberg, and Richland’s homecoming queen this year was Janet Morken daughter of Dave and Roxanne Morken. King candidates were: Matt Casperson son of Barb Casperson and Kent and Sonja Casperson, Jacob Erbes son of Lonnie and Rhonda Erbes, Alex Frankl son of Jason and Tamara Frankl, Lyle Hager son of Deb and Doug Hager, and King Jay Bachman son of Brian and Jackie Becker and the late Butch Bachman.

Each day a special activity was planned. Monday’s activity was the coronation. Student council sold ice cream sundaes Tuesday during lunch hour. On Wednesday, FCCLA sponsored a Relay for Life event. For every dollar donated a name was written on the “Wall of Flame” to remember cancer victims and honor cancer survivors. During lunch hour student spent 15 minutes walking around the track in honor of those names. For the activity on Thursday this year we brought back an event we hadn’t done in a few years, Powder Puff Football. It was grades seven, 10, and 11 against grades eight, nine, and 12. The game was very close and fun to watch with football coach, Jeff Sheehan, announcing and assistant coaches, Kal Triplett and Doug Margerum, helping coach the two teams. The seven, ten, and eleven team came out to win by just one touchdown.

The big pep rally and major festivities were held Friday. Students were dismissed at noon to eat lunch and then the fun began. The pep band played to kick off the volleyball tournament where the staff reclaimed the championship trophy. We also tried something new this year, a karaoke contest.

King Jay Bachman, led the school in a little game called, “The Love Statue.” The afternoon closed with an obstacle course posing all the grades and staff against each other. The boy’s side of the homecoming court came out on top by quite a few seconds. The night was capped off with an impressive 42-12 win over the Barnes County North Bison and a dance.
