Eight students of the month named
Wahpeton Rotary selected eight students of the month for December.
Ashton Matejcek is a junior at Fairmount High School and is the daughter of Tim and Lynette Matejcek. Her awards and accomplishments include being on the A honor roll, on the student council as the treasurer and vice president, receiving regional stars for music, state music medals for choir, she lettered in basketball and volleyball, and she is a published poet at teenink.com. Her activities include basketball, volleyball, softball, CYO, Close-Up, choir, journalism, student council and band. Ashton plans to attend North Dakota State University or Jamestown College and possibly play volleyball.
Dwight Anderson is a junior at Hankinson Public School and is the son of Arnie and Dolores Anderson. His awards and accomplishments include All-Region Honorable Mention, Most Improved-basketball, track and drama, Titan Award (football), track state qualifier, music state qualifier, multiple science fair awards, honorable mention NSU Math Competition, and AMC 10 math state place winner. His activities include football, basketball, Legion baseball, track, drama, science fair, band, choir, jazz band, NSU Math Competition, Tri-College Math Competition and Dollars for Scholars volunteer. Dwight plans to attend NDSU and major in chemistry.
Cheryl Bohnenstingl is a junior at Lidgerwood High School and is the daughter of Ron Bohnenstingl and Roxanne Bohnenstingl. Her awards and accomplishments include three years on the honor roll and she organized the Lidgerwood 3-on-3 basketball tournament. Her activities include being on the yearbook staff and is a class officer. Cheryl plans to attend Humboldt State University in Northern California or the University of North Dakota.
Lauren Casperson is a junior at Richland 44 High School and is the daughter of Barb Casperson and Kent Casperson. Her awards and accomplishments include receiving state and regional stars in choir, involved in NDSU Honor Choir, in the National Honor Society, multiple awards in track - state qualifier, MVP, hardest worker, most improved, A Honor Roll, lead in school musical, she lettered in basketball, track, choir and volleyball. Her activities include basketball, volleyball, track, choir and FCCLA. Lauren plans to attend Concordia College and major in psychiatry. Her long-term goal is to go on a mission trip to Africa.
Alec Foertsch is a junior at Wyndmere Public School and is the son of Todd and Heidi Foertsch. His awards and accomplishments include state music, NDSU Honor Choir, All-Region 2 Football Team, football captain, honor roll and Tri-College Math. His activities include football, track, baseball, basketball, choir and National Honor Society. Alec plans to major in an engineering or science-related field at NDSU or UND.
Alison Kretchman is a junior at Wahpeton High School and is the daughter of Bonnie and Curt Kretchman. Her awards and accomplishments include lettering in basketball, cheerleading and track. Her activities include basketball and volleyball. Alison is considering attending UND to major in occupational therapy.
Brandon Lee is a junior at Wahpeton High School and is the son of Rick and Carol Lee. His awards and accomplishments include receiving the President's award in middle school, Chapter Individual first place in Math Counts (8th grade), state participant in Math Counts (8th grade), Gold in District FFA Creed Speaking contest (9th grade), third place in ag sales in southeast judging classic (10th grade), Outstanding Freshman Award in FFA, Outstanding Sophomore Award in FFA, A Honor Roll, Gold in state ag mechanics (freshman and sophomore), and winner of Duane Sand's essay contest on Patriotism. His activities include working at Wahpeton Ace Hardware, FFA (sophomore and freshman years), and SkillsUSA. Lee plans to attend NDSU and major in mechanical engineering.
Denim Schneider is a junior at Wahpeton High School and is the son Carl and Brenda Schneider. His awards and accomplishments include being on the B Honor Roll. His activities include being in the Spanish Club and is on the Senior High Team (church). Denim is undecided in where he will attend college or what he will major in.
