Phyllis A. Lindberg, 80, Wahpeton, N.D., died Sunday evening, Feb. 15, 2009, at her home in Wahpeton.

The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19 at Bethel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton, with the Rev. Kathryn Rothman officiating.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18 at the Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton and Thursday one hour before the service at the church.

Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Wahpeton, in the spring. Arrangements are with Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.

Phyllis was born Jan. 30, 1929, at Rugby, N.D., the daughter of Jacob and Magda (Ryding) Grove. She grew up in Rugby, graduating from Rugby High School. Phyllis was a graduate of the Good Samaritan School of Nursing in Rugby, where she obtained her registered nursing degree. In December of 1950 she was united in marriage to Charles Lindberg at Rugby, and the couple lived in various communities while Charles was in the U.S. Air Force. She worked as a nurse in Fessenden, N.D., and Forest Grove, Ore., before they moved to Wahpeton, where she worked at St. Francis Hospital in Breckenridge, Minn. After her family was raised, Phyllis taught nursing at North Dakota State College of Science for several years and was a public health nurse for Richland County before her health forced her to retire.

Phyllis was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, P.E.O. and was involved with homemakers and bridge clubs. She enjoyed needle work and sewing, making many of the children quilts and other embroidery.

Phyllis is survived by: her husband of 58 years, Charles Lindberg, Wahpeton; three children, Michael (Stephanie) Lindberg, Bloomington, Minn., Mary Beth Lindberg, Breckenridge, Minn., Carol (Brian) Feight, Rochester, Minn.; four grandchildren, Peter (Stephanie) Lindberg, Reid Lindberg, Annika Feight and Andrew Lindberg; her daughter-in-law, Jana Lindberg, St. Paul, Minn.; and her sister, Beverly (Joe) Rogers, Bismarck, N.D.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; her son, Jon Lindberg; and her sister, Arliss Johnson.
