Quantum Change, a new hypnosis and stress management practice in Wyndmere, is offering an alternative path to better health.

Contrary to popular belief, hypnosis does not always compromise its subjects in embarrassing ways. Marlena Reichert, owner, explains hypnosis is an everyday occurrence.

"Whenever you fall asleep or watch a good movie, you're in 'highway hypnosis,'" she said. "And when you're in that state, you're able to access your subconscious mind."

At that point, Reichert said a client is able to access their brain's hardware system and alter their thinking patterns, as well as their behavior patterns.

"It's not something I do," she said. "It's what the client does themselves. I just give them the tools to do it."

A seminar on weight loss Reichert offers has proven to be quite successful. After one session, Reichert said a female client started making simple decisions to improve her eating behavior.

"Suddenly, she started realizing she was thinking twice about what she was eating," said Reichert. "That was after maybe 20 minutes. We weren't even dealing with weight loss then, but with other health issues. "

While attending school for hypnosis, Reichert met a former 300 pound woman who lost 85 pounds after attending.

"She'd had a lot of psychological trauma in her life, and she knew that was part of the reason she couldn't lose weight," Reichert said.

A majority of clients find themselves changing after the first day, but Reichert recommends finishing all four sessions to reduce chances of weight gain.

Reichert, who has been battling fibromyalgia and other health issues for the past 10 years, tried a variety of different medication before she discovered hypnosis. She now feels she is at a point where she can help others.

"It's taken me awhile to get there," she said. "But I know what it feels like to not want to get out of the bed in the morning, and there is a way to get through this."

Reichert received training in hypnosis at the Minnesota Institute of Communication Skills. She is a certified consulting hypnotist, stress management consultant and certified motivational coach.

Three seminars - weight loss, smoking cessation and stress reduction - will be held in Breckenridge starting on March 14 at the Select Inn. Call Reichert at 701-640-3513 for any questions or to schedule a free consultation.
