Shirley Crookston, 73, Wahpeton, N.D., died Friday, March 13, 2009, in Wahpeton. A Funeral Service will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 18, at Willow Creek Chapel, Wahpeton (920 3rd Ave. N).

Shirley was born April 13, 1935, in Pipestone, Minn. She was raised in northeastern North Dakota by her parents, Calvin and Verna (Johnson) Henderson. She attended school in Grand Forks, N.D., and graduated from Walhalla, N.D., in 1953. She worked for Border Farm Supply in Walhalla and C. & B. Inc. in Grafton, N.D., both of which were part of Home Of Economy, for whom she later worked in Minot, N.D. She earned her dental assistant degree in 1992 from Brymann College in Long Beach, Calif.

She married Dan Crookston on Sept. 4, 1964, in Dillon, S.C. They lived in North Carolina and Washington before returning to North Dakota.

She is survived by: two daughters, Jan Kompelien (Ken) of Wahpeton, and Jodi Booe of Oceanside, Calif.; four grandchildren, Emily, Scott and Melissa Kompelien of Wahpeton, and Kyle Booe of Oceanside; one brother, Don Henderson (Gen) of Grove City, Ohio; one sister, Lori Fischer of Grand Forks; five nephews; and two nieces.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; and one brother, Dennis Henderson.

Memorials may be given to Riveredge Hospice, Breckenridge, Minn.

Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, is in charge of arrangements.
