Arnold ‘Arnie’ W. Biel, 77, Wahpeton, N.D., died Tuesday, April 28, 2009, at St. Francis Healthcare Campus-Hospital, Breckenridge, Minn.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 4 at the Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, with the Rev. Paul Baker officiating.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, May 3 at the Vertin-Munson Funeral Home; also, one hour prior to time of service at the funeral home on Monday.

Burial will be held at Fairview Memorial Garden, Wahpeton.

Arnold William Biel was born Sept. 6, 1931, at rural Peever, Lawrence Township, Roberts County, S.D., to Otto and Minnie (Winchell) Biel. He attended rural school in Lake Township, Roberts County. Arnold farmed with his dad until 1967 when he started working for North Dakota State College of Science, Wahpeton, as a custodian and later went to maintenance. He worked for NDSCS until 1997 when he retired. He then worked for Fairview Cemetery for 10 years. Arnold was always willing to lend a helping hand. Arnold enjoyed sharing his life with his friends and family, especially Bob and Sandy, Jeremy, Joshua, Jacob and Jesse Biel.

He was a member of the Wahpeton Eagles Aerie No. 2749 and was a member of the Bagg Bonanza Historical Farm.

He enjoyed playing cards, coffee with friends, taking long drives around the lakes and looking at crops. He was a collector of many items, including belt buckles, clocks, coins and eagles.

Left to cherish his memory are: his nephew and his wife, Bob and Sandy, Browns Valley, Minn.; Jeremy, Fargo, N.D.; Joshua, Jacob, and Jesse Biel, Browns Valley; special friend, Grace Lehman; his daughter, Janet (David) Gibson, Washington; his brother, Glen Biel, Lewiston, Idaho; two sisters, Josie Darrington, Troy, Idaho, Janice Osborne, Troy; one sister-in-law, Deloris Biel, Browns Valley; half-sister, Beulah Jensen, Wilmot, S.D.; many nieces and nephews; and three granddaughters, Washington.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; one brother, Otis; one sister-in-law, Bea Biel; two brother-in-laws, Vance Osborne and Jim Darrington; three half-brothers, Willard and Lloyd Lundgren, David Jensen; and one half-sister, Lucille Fryer.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.
