Campbell welcomes Olson

With a strong background of the area, Wayne Olson seems to be a perfect fit for his new job as Campbell-Tintah School superintendent.
Olson, who will be taking over the duties of former superintendent Lee Kulland on July 1, started his teaching career in Fairmount in 1975. A majority of his experience has occurred in the Red River Valley and it is something he truly appreciates.
"I'm just very comfortable with it," he said. "I like the values that rural people have — in particular, that they appreciate and value education. Students I've had in the past have always exhibited those types of qualities, and it's enjoyable to work with."
While he has no specific plans for the district, maintaining the fund balance is his top priority. As economic times are tough and resources limited, he said the school still needs to provide a quality education for its students "so they can go on and become very successful citizens in our country."
Olson also said he wants to continue to provide them a wide range of technology resources and opportunities.
A native of Thief River Falls, Minn., Olson has worked at the high school and college level as a teacher, superintendent, principal and football coach. He has a background in education administration and considerable work completed toward an educational doctorate.
Olson and his wife, Annette, are in the process of moving to Campbell from the small town of Comfrey, Minn.
"I'm excited and looking forward to the opportunity and challenges that just come with this position, and that we have with education right now," he said.
