Bob Heitkamp of Mantador is celebrating this week his invention's third victory at an entrepreneurial competition this year.

The Site Saver, a device molded to retain IV tubing in order to prevent unintentional removal, won him three awards at the Minnesota Inventors Congress held June 12-13 in Redwood Falls, Minn.

"It's pretty amazing," Heitkamp said. "We've won five awards in three competitions."

Heitkamp, his manufacturers and marketing team took home a gold medal, a people's choice award and a grand prize — the F. Robert Starr Award, distributed to the inventor, whose design was determined to be the best exhibited.

"The judging was different," Heitkamp said. "That was done by a select group of judges from various professions."

For example, judges evaluated staff presentations at each booth, how products were explained and the quality of the prototype.

"We've got a pretty wide variety of reactions in many different markets. There was a huge presence of medical, presumably because its closer to the cities," Heitkamp said.

In a note to Deb Hess, executive director of the Minnesota Inventors Congress, Heitkamp expressed his appreciation for the acknowledgement,

"As I reflect on all the experiences, comments and reactions we received I'm beginning to realize the impact the Site Saver may have on millions of people in the very near future," he said. "That's what my personal intent was in the development of this device and I'd like everyone at the MIC to realize they had a huge part in advancing this new technology."
