WAHPETON, N.D. (AP) — Valley City State University says it will cost $600,000 to make emergency repairs to the school’s fieldhouse.

The estimate is higher than previous figures, and North Dakota’s Board of Higher Education is reviewing it. The board is meeting in Wahpeton.

Valley City State wants $275,000 in state emergency funds before North Dakota’s two-year budget cycle ends June 30. Then the school wants another $125,000 in emergency money after the new budget period starts July 1.

The North Dakota university system’s budget already includes $1.3 million for Valley City State building repairs during the next two years.

The W.E. Osmon fieldhouse is known as “The Bubble.” Its gym, lobby and main entrance was recently closed for safety reasons. Some of the roof’s supporting timbers appear to be rotting.
