Another day, another report about a Major League Baseball player using steroids.
As the story goes, Sammy Sosa failed a drug test in 2003, and now his accomplishments are in question.

He was locked into a chase of Roger Maris' record with Mark McGwire.
Now he’s the subject of the late night comedians.
The list of suspected ball players has increased by one.
So, what should we think of all of this?
It seems as though an entire era of baseball has been called into question.
At the time, the fans sure enjoyed the home runs.
I enjoyed the show too.
The consequences and health risks associated with steroid use are well documented.
But, how do we discourage it's use when the athletes are setting the example?
People who have taken steroids have made millions of dollars.
It's pretty tough to discourage kids when money talks.
But, any athlete out there needs to realize that the odds of becoming a professional athlete and making the big dollars is extremely remote.
Of all the kids out there playing a sport, the number of them that can make a living from it are meager at best.
Don't risk it.
Your long-term health is much more important than any potential short-term gains.
Then when you look back on your athletic career, you can say that you competed the right way.
And your career doesn't have to end up a punch-line.
