Coleman announced his decision at a news conference in St. Paul, hours after a unanimous Minnesota Supreme Court ruled that Franken, a former “Saturday Night Live” comedian and liberal commentator, should be certified the winner.
“The Supreme Court has made its decision and I will abide by the results,” Coleman told reporters outside his St. Paul home.

Franken’s presence in the Senate would give the Democrats control of 60 seats, enough to overcome any Republican filibuster if they stay united.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Democrat Al Franken says he’s “so thrilled” to finally be celebrating a victory in Minnesota’s nearly eight-month-overdue Senate race.
Franken spoke to the media soon after Republican Norm Coleman conceded the race. Coleman’s concession after the Minnesota Supreme Court rejected his appeal.
Franken says he’s “thrilled and honored by the faith Minnesotans have placed in me.” He says he can’t wait to get started, and believes he’ll be sworn in next week.
Franken says he’ll sit on a few Senate committees, including Judiciary. That would have him participating immediately in confirmation hearings over Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor.
