Residents of Wahpeton who do not have insurance or have trouble paying for insurance have a chance to get help with prescription drugs.

The Partnership for Prescription Assistance (PPA) "Help Is Here Express" bus will be in Wahpeton Friday, July 10 at the Innovis Clinic parking lot from 2:30-3:30 p.m. The help provided through the PPA at the bus and over the phone is free of charge.

"The bus is a way for the PPA to raise awareness of what the [organization] does," said Kaelan Hollon, PPA spokespereson. Residents who stop by only need to have a list of prescriptions they are taking. The visit consists of 10 questions and only takes 10-15 minutes. Based on the questions, the consultant is able to match an individual or family to a program that best suits them.

The PPA provides easy access to information on programs for those struggling to pay for healthcare where they can get prescriptions for free or nearly free.

"[The PPA] is like a one-stop shopping center," said Hollon. "There are 475 programs that make up the PPA. These programs have been around 20-30 years and people didn't know how to access it."

Hollon said most are intimidated by the amount of paperwork involved and are not using the companies to be most effective.

In 2005, the PPA was formed to make it easier for people to find out which program may help them best.

"If someone doesn't have a healthcare provider, they're able to find out what free help is out there," Hollon said.

The PPA's primary audience is the uninsured, but there are programs to help with co-pay and specific to children's health insurance needs, among others, Hollon said.

If anyone is unable to stop by the bus July 10, the program is always available online at www.pparx.org or by calling 1-888-4PPA-NOW.

"If you are having problems paying for healthcare, check us out," Hollon said. "You're going to talk to a live person. The most important thing is if people do call, have a list of prescriptions you are taking."
