Mary Louise (Savoy) Tyvand, 66, Breckenridge, Minn., died Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at her home in Breckenridge surrounded by her family and friends.

Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 6 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Breckenridge, with the Rev. Kenneth Popp officiating.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, July 5 with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the funeral at the funeral home.

Burial will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 7 at Lebanon Cemetery, Apple Valley, Minn.

Mary was born July 27, 1942, in Fergus Falls, Minn., the daughter of John and Myrtle (Moe) Savoy. At a young age she moved with her family to Breckenridge and graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1960. She then furthered her education at North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, N.D., where she met James Tyvand from Rugby, N.D. They were married Aug. 5, 1961, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Breckenridge.

The couple made their home in Apple Valley, where they raised their children and Mary had a long time career in real estate. They relocated back to Breckenridge in 1998, where she enjoyed her retirement and summers at Ottertail Lake.

Mary was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Breckenridge, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking, playing cards, bowling, reading, crossword puzzles and spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by: her husband, Jim Tyvand, Breckenridge; her daughters, Kathy (Larry) Van Tol, Mankato, Minn., and Karla (Tom) Carney, Lakeville, Minn.; her three grandsons, Jack, Cory and Alec; her father, John “Jack” Savoy and his wife, LouEtta, Fergus Falls; her three brothers, Michael (Nana) Savoy, Tampa, Fla., David (Nancy) Savoy, Reno, Nev., and Gregory (Connie) Savoy, Wahpeton; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by: her mother, Myrtle Savoy, and her son, Thomas.
