Before Thursday's doubleheader, the Breckenridge baseball team honored members of American Legion Post 53 for their support throughout the season with a pre-game ceremony.

Then they treated the post members and the fans to a sweep of Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton, 8-7, 11-5.

"They (D-G-F) came into these games with an 8-1 record," coach Kevin Hiedeman said. "And we were facing their No. 1 pitcher in the first game. These were two big wins for us."

In the first game, D-G-F got three runs in the first inning off Breckenridge starter Preston Kappes.

A double, triple and an error gave D-G-F a 3-0 lead.

Breckenridge scored a run in the bottom of the inning.

Bryan Jacklitch hit a single, stole a base and came in to score on a double by David Bergquist.

In the bottom of the second, Post 53 took the lead.

Kappes and Reece Wilson reached base and Brady Wall hit a three-run homerun to give Breckenridge a 4-3 lead.

D-G-F tied the game at 4 with a run in the top of the third inning, but Breckenridge got the lead back in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Wall led off with a double and Jacklitch hit a single.

After Bergquist walked to load the bases, Justin Sorum got a hit to drive in two runs.

With Post 53 leading 6-4, D-G-F got a run in the top of the sixth to pull to within a run.

In the top of the seventh, Jacklitch came in to relieve Kappes on the mound.

D-G-F got two runs in the inning and took the lead 7-6.

In their final at-bats, Breckenridge rallied.

Grant Hillestead and Erik Hiedeman got hits and with one out, Ryan Voss hit a ball that was not fielded cleanly, allowing Voss to score and Hiedeman to advance to third base.

Jacklitch then hit a long fly ball to right-center field that was caught.

But, Hiedeman tagged at third and scored the winning run on the sacrifice.

In the second game, the teams switched their batting orders, with Breckenridge playing as the visiting team and batting first.

Walker Busse started for Post 53 and gave up a run in the bottom of the first inning.

The game remained 1-0 in favor of D-G-F until the top of the fourth, when Breckenridge scored four times.

Hiedeman started the inning by reaching on an error.

Ryan Voss drew a walk and David Bergquist hit an infield single to load the bases.

Justin Sorum then hit a bases clearing double to drive in three of his five RBI on the night.

Kappes drove in Sorum and Post 53 had a 4-1 lead.

In the top of the fifth, Breckenridge put the game out of reach with a six run inning.

Wall and Hiedeman each reached on errors to start the inning.

Voss drew a walk to load the bases and Jacklitch got a hit to score Wall.

Bergquist reached on a fielders choice while Hiedeman scored, then Sorum hit his second double of the game to drive in two more runs.

Busse and Kappes each reached on walks and Sorum and Busse came around to score and give Breckenridge a 10-1 lead.

D-G-F scored pairs of runs in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings, while Breckenridge added another run in the seventh to account for the final score.

"When we get our leadoff men on and we get big hits with runners in scoring position," Hiedeman said. "We can score a lot of runs. And we did that tonight."

For the two games, Eric Hiedeman reached base in seven of his nine at-bats, including 5 for 5 in the first game.

Sorum was 6 for 8 in the two games.

Busse pitched a complete game in the second game and allowed only four hits while striking out four D-G-F batters.

Breckenridge travels to Barnesville Friday night for a single game starting at 6:30 p.m.
