Wahpeton American Legion Post 20 hosted the Devils Lake Storm Tuesday night at John Randall Field.

The Storm jumped on Wahpeton right away in the first game and held off a late charge in the second game to sweep the doubleheader 10-1, 7-4.

"We didn't play very good baseball tonight, until maybe the last couple of innings of the second game," coach Chris Kappes said. "We had too many errors, too many walks and we looked at too many pitches. We can't keep giving teams extra outs.”

Cole Ziegler started pitching the first game for Post 20.

Devils Lake got a run in the top of the first inning after a runner reached third base and scored on a balk.

The Storm added three runs in the top of the third inning and held a 4-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Preston Kath hit a double for Wahpeton.

Nick Viebrock hit a single, and Kyle Rinnels singled to score Kath for the only Post 20 run of the game.

Devils Lake added four runs in the top of the sixth and two runs in the top of the seventh to get the win.

In the second game, Ryan Sheeley started the game at pitcher.

Devils Lake scored two runs on two hits and Wahpeton committed two errors in the inning.

In the bottom of the first, Kath reached on a walk, went to second base on a balk and advanced to third on a wild pitch.

Trevor Thiele hit a single to drive Kath in and Wahpeton trailed 2-1.

Devils Lake added a run in the top of the second inning, but Wahpeton got it back in the bottom of the inning.

Cody Zarak reached on an error and came around to score on a double by Jeremy Bontjes.

Leading 3-2, the Storm added three runs in the third and a run in the fourth to make it 7-2.

The score stayed that way until Wahpeton's final at-bat in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Nick Holkup was hit by a pitch to start the rally.

Bontjes reached on a walk and Kath got a hit to load the bases.

Thiele got a hit to score Holkup and Justin Formaneck's hit got Bontjes home.

But that's as close a Wahpeton got, as the Devils Lake defense stopped Post 20 short of their come-back.

Wahpeton is off now until Tuesday, when they travel to Devils Lake.
