PCI still seeking young employees

Despite a recent round of layoffs at a call center in Fargo, the owner of a local call center says he's still confident it can grow successfully.

Jerry Maley said he thinks he made a good decision about moving Performance Centers Inc. (PCI) to Wahpeton. The client base offers the company a chance to grow, and we're hoping to do most of it there, he said.

"We're still excited about it and we're still going to move forward," he said.

Although the applications keep pouring in - particularly at the Fargo branch - Maley said he's still seeking a solid base of employees who will stick around and do sales calls.

"We haven't found the numbers we need that are capable of doing it," he said. "We have young people - college students, high school students that do it every day and know it's not a difficult issue."

Before the company included Wahpeton in its expansion, Maley said he scouted around and saw some very young, aggressive people interested in the job. But that demographic has not been showing up in full force.

"I'm a little disappointed," he said. "I was really hoping to see more high school and college students looking for part-time work."

As job opportunities continue to be tight within the state and across the nation, a spot at PCI can offer a secondary income or even a full-time job that pays well, he said.

"We have a couple of people over there that do extremely well, so we know it can be done," he said. "We have other people doing it in other parts of the state, competing against all over the country. We're not asking for something that's impossible, but the effort required to be successful."
