Phyllis Tweeton, 79, died Thursday, August 6, at Bethany Retirement Living, Moorhead, Minn., her residence since 2007. Her family was by her side.
The funeral will be held Tuesday, August 11, at 1 p.m. at Lutheran Church of Christ, Moorhead. Visitation will be held from 5- 7 p.m. on Monday, August 10 at Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead, and one hour prior to the funeral at the church.
Burial will proceed at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 11 at Oak Grove Cemetery, Fergus Falls, Minn.
Phyllis Ilene Albertson was born in Foxhome, Minn., to Miles Gordon and Irene (Rislov) Albertson, on Feb. 12, 1930. She graduated from Campbell High School in 1948. She received her teacher’s certificate from Moorhead Teachers College in 1949, her A.D. in 1955, and her B.S. in 1961, from Moorhead State College.
She started teaching in 1950 in the Bergerud Rural School, in Otter Tail County. She also taught in Albert Lea, Minn., Luverne, Minn., and Fargo, N.D. Her last 21 years of teaching were at Thomas Edison Elementary in Moorhead, before she retired in 1987.
Phyllis married Richard Tweeton on July 11, 1964, at Foxhome. They moved to Moorhead and raised two children, Kevin and DeAnna. They loved to travel and spend time at the lake. In later years, they loved time spent with their grandchildren, family and friends. They cherished playing cards and games with their grandchildren as well.
Phyllis had a passion for collecting dolls and plates. She was active in her church and Bible study groups.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2007, and her parents.
She is survived by: her children, Kevin, Moorhead, and DeAnna (Troy) Haugen, Rochester, Minn.; daughter-in-law, Kimberly Tweeton, Moorhead; five grandchildren; three brothers, Merlyn (Ruth) Albertson, Moorhead; Virgil (Mary) Albertson and Darrell (Patty) Albertson, Fergus Falls, Minn.; and three sisters, Donna Mae (Arthur) Dahlen, Luverne, Minn., Janice Dold (Chet Baker), Elko, Minn., and Rhonda (Mark) Gasiorowski, Lakeville, Minn.
