Semi-truck’s brakes were smoking

Truck driver Dale Spafford, Wheaton, Minn., reported his semi-trailer on fire Tuesday morning four miles south of Breckenridge on U.S. Highway 75. Spafford was hauling corn when he saw his brakes were smoking.

Breckenridge Fire Department, Wilkin County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota Highway Patrol responded to the incident. The fire department got the fire under control. The incident is still under investigation.

    " 563 tire fires on tractor trailers this month. Lucky he was not on a mountain grade. We are doing real good this year and only 14 deaths reported everyday by semi truck accidents, that is down by 2 from last year. Then again, winter is coming. "
