Wildcats earn weekend tournament split in Iowa

North Dakota State College of Science head volleyball coach Jane Passa was pleased with her team's effort over the weekend, as the Wildcats went into a tough tournament at Iowa Lakes Community College, in Estherville, Iowa, and went 2-2.

"We were able to defeat two excellent and nationally ranked teams," Passa said. "I was very proud of our defense and we really worked well together."

The Wildcats lost to Iowa Western CC, from Council Bluffs, Iowa, 25-10, 25-12, 25-12.

In that game, Brittany Olson, Taylor Hart and Megan Dierks each had four kills, while Libby Augedahl had 13 digs and Kayla Dougherty had 14 assists.

NDSCS lost a close five-set match to McHenry CC, from Crystal Lake, Iowa, 16-25, 25-19, 25-19, 23-25, 12-15.

Hart led the Wildcats with 16 kills and 25 digs in that game, while Dougherty added 39 assists.

The Wildcats' two wins in the tournament came against Iowa Central and Iowa Lakes.

Against the Tritons, from Fort Dodge, Iowa, the Wildcats won 25-22, 23-25, 25-22, 25-20.

Sara Opp and Hart each had 11 kills.

Augedahl and Hart had 26 and 20 digs respectively and Dougherty had 37 assists.

The Wildcats closed out the tournament with a win over the Iowa Lakes Lakers, 25-18, 25-18, 25-17.

Opp, Hart and Olson each got seven kills.

Augedahl led the Wildcats with 16 digs and Dougherty added 29 assists.

"I saw great improvement by everyone," Passa said. "Many of our players stepped up. Libby (Augedahl) played incredible."

The Wildcats are now 4-2 on the season as they travel to Bismarck State College for their next match Wednesday.
