International delegation visits NDSCS

More than 50 delegates from eight countries visited North Dakota State College of Science (NDSCS) campus Wednesday morning to look at the latest technology and innovation the college offers.
The delegation split into four groups and toured the John Deere Tech shop, the CAT Tech lab, a second-year Powertrains program and the second-year hydraulics department.
"It's an opportunity for us to showcase the education and training that we do to support the North Dakota business and industry that can impact [the delegates'] business," said NDSCS President John Richman.
Most delegates had earpieces to listen to translators as tour guides explained each department. Richman gave a short introductory speech about NDSCS and its programs to start the tour.
The visit also helped the college build on its cultural development. International Programs Consultant Dr. Victor Udin has been working with the college to make the campus more culturally friendly for international students.
Udin is originally from Russia, but has lived in the United States for 20 years.
"I work with the president, faculty and staff to develop a cultural environment that would accommodate international students," Udin said.
Part of this work involved translating NDSCS material, like brochures, into Russian. Udin said this cultural relationship helps lay the foundation for a bright international future for the college.
Other ways Udin helps NDSCS to expand its cultural appeal is representing the college at different conventions in Russia and former Soviet Union countries like the Ukraine.
He presents the translated materials and gives an overview of the college.
"I appreciate what [NDSCS] is doing to prepare for international students," Udin said.
