Huskies get ‘team win’ against Knights
by Scott Sorum • Daily News
Wahpeton head volleyball coach Jodi Kleven was disappointed with the way her team started their match with Grand Forks Central Thursday.
But coach Kleven was happy with the results, as the Huskies beat the Knights 3-1.
"We came out very slow and we were down in the first game," Kleven said.
"But we came back and won. Katelyn Kleven played very smart at the net. She is a very smooth player."
In the first game, Katelyn and Kelsey Kleven got important kills at the net and Michelle Mennis served an ace as the Huskies built a 15-6 lead.
Jocie Fisher also got a kill and Jordyn Braun served an ace as Wahpeton increased their lead.
But the Knights came back and tied the game at 23.
Cameron Schroder and Kelsey Kleven combined for a block late in the game and Katelyn Kleven got the winning point as Wahpeton took the first game 27-25.
"The team allowed Jocie Fisher to serve 11 in a row in the first game," coach Kleven said. "Jordyn Braun touched the ball 114 times during the match and had 31 assists. It certainly was a team win."
Grand Forks Central tied the game at 1-1 with a win in the second game, 25-19.
But the Huskies dominated the third and fourth games and came away with wins, 25-18, 25-10 to pick up the win.
The Huskies host West Fargo in their next match Tuesday.
