Students in Serrina Lemna's Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) class love to visit Lindig Farms because they can search for pumpkins, experience a hay ride and participate in other activities they normally don't get a chance to.
"It's all about their senses and trying things out," said Lemna, ECFE pre-school teacher. "It's an awesome opportunity for them."

"They have to learn things by doing them and by trying them out," she said. "We can't gauge what a farm is like by looking at a picture book. But [we] can by actually being out there and hearing a cowbell ring or running the corn through our fingers."
Lindig Farms also provides a great opportunity for family fun and learning, as the owner, Dave Lindig, typically performs animal, craft and machine demonstrations on a daily basis.
"I try to think of it as an entertainment and educational facility," he said. "I have lots of different animals and we talk about their well-being and health."
Pigmy goats, rabbits, pigs and baby chicks all reside at his farm, and on the weekends he invites visitors to milk a cow. Students can visit the bone hut, which features the bones of wild animals, or run their hands through a seed sandbox holding corn, wheat and soybeans. They can also create their own artwork from a selection of natural seeds grown in the area, said Lindig.
Marcy Hanneman, Breckenridge community education director, said the trip helps students understand the working process behind the food we eat.
"It's fun for the kids and it's also kind of nostalgic," she said.
