by Scott Sorum • Daily News
Baylee Wilson had 17 kills and Samantha Splonskowski added 14, as the Breckenridge Cowgirls volleyball team beat the Lake Park-Audubon Raiders 3-1 Thursday night at home.
"Samantha had a good week. Her performances Tuesday and again tonight have been her best of the season. She had zero hitting errors and that's hard to do," coach Linda Hillestad said. "We also worked hard on defense in practice and it really showed in or blocking and digging."
The Cowgirls let the first game get away from them.
Trailing the entire match, L P-A rallied from a 23-18 deficit and won 26-24.
The second game belonged to Breckenridge. The Cowgirls took off from a 7-7 tie and scored the next 13 points in a row.
Wilson and Splonskowski combined for eight kills in the run and the Cowgirls evened the match 1-1, with their 25-13 win.
In the third game, the Cowgirls fell behind early but came back to tie it at 11.
Siri Manning and Splonskowski had key blocks late in the game and Mackinzie Wilson hit a shot to put Breckenridge ahead 22-20.
With the game tied at 23, two L P-A errors gave the game to Breckenridge 25-23.
The fourth game was also a close one.
The Raiders led late, but the Cowgirls came back.
Baylee Wilson got a kill to bring Breckenridge to within a point, 21-20. Then the Cowgirls got two straight service aces by Manning and kills by Wilson and Splonskowski to take the lead 24-22.
Splonskowski got a block at game point and the Cowgirls won 25-22 to take the match 3-1.
Three Cowgirls were perfect in serving tonight, Alisha Goodijohn, Breann Larson, and Mary Wermerskirchen.
Three Cowgirls had two serving aces, Heidi Sayler, Amber Vold, and Siri Manning.
Digging leaders were Heidi Sayler and Amber Vold, with 19 and 13 respectively.
Mackinzie Wilson had 36 assists.
"I was proud of the girls for their team effort," coach Hillestad said. "All of the girls had a job to do and they worked hard."
The Cowgirls (7-8, 4-1 HOL) host Perham, Minn., Tuesday for their next game.
