Marlys Lund was born June 24, 1941, in Wahpeton, N.D., to Henry and Susan (McCann) Lund. She grew up and attended Wahpeton public schools. Marlys graduated from Wahpeton High School in 1959. After high school, she attended North Dakota State School of Science for two years and then completed her bachelor's degree in education at Valley City State College. During her time at NDSSS, she met the love of her life, Edwin Wilson Jr. On Aug. 4, 1962, Edwin and Marlys were united in marriage at St. John's Catholic Church in Wahpeton. After brief stays in Garrison, N.D., Wahpeton, and West Fargo, they made their home in Reiles Acres, where they raised three daughters.
Marlys' family and friends were the center of her life. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards, reading, traveling, walking, having coffee with friends and an occasional shopping spree. She attended all of her children's and grandchildren's activities. There was nothing that made her happier than watching the accomplishments of her family. Along with watching the accomplishments of her family, Marlys also was a huge basketball fan. Some of her greatest basketball memories were watching her son-in-law coach in the Minnesota State Tournament for Pelican Rapids, Minn. Most of all, she was always the first to lend a helping hand or a compassionate hug. Their home was always open to family gatherings for holidays, celebrations and get-togethers.
Marlys is survived by: her husband, Edwin; three daughters, Wanda Evin, West Fargo, Wendy (David) Hanson, Baxter, Minn., and Michelle (Blaine) Ristvedt, West Fargo; six grandchildren, Tyler, Nicholas and Heather Evin, Brittany and Chelsey Hanson, and Soren Ristvedt; her three brothers, Duane (JoAnne) Lund, Moorhead, Minn., Darrel (Lois) Lund, West Fargo, and Kevin Lund, Fargo, N.D.; one brother-in-law, Rod (Arlene) Wilson, Grand Forks, N.D.; two nieces and two nephews, Lori (Mark) Heisler, Apple Valley, Minn., Cathy (Mark) Ziebarth, Cambridge, Minn., Jason (Shana) Wilson, Harwood, N.D., Matt (Jane) Wilson, Grand Forks.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; son-in-law, Jeff Evin; and several aunts and uncles.
