Cowgirls beat tough Perham, Minn., team, 3-2

Siri Manning had 12 kills to lead the Breckenridge Cowgirls volleyball team to a 3-2 win over Perham, Minn., Tuesday at home.

"This is the first time we've beaten Perham since I've been here," head coach Linda Hillestad said. "They have won the Heart O' Lakes Conference eight of the nine years under my tenure."

The first set was back and forth, before the Yellow Jackets came out on top, 25-18.

Breckenridge easily won the second set. They got an early lead and never looked back, winning 25-12.

In the third set, Perham got the lead early and won 25-14.

Breckenridge jumped out to an early 5-1 lead in the fourth set.

Amber Vold served two aces early in the set as the cowgirls held on for a 25-18 win to tie the match, 2-2.

Baylee Wilson and Samantha Splonskowski got early kills in the fifth set to give Breckenridge the match with a 15-10 win.

"Perham has great defense. We had to earn our points," Hillestad said. "We're showing improvement with each match and I can't ask for more than that as a coach. I was very proud of the Cowgirls for playing their best against a very good team."

Breann Larson had 14 digs for the game.

The attack was spread out among five Cowgirls, with Manning leading the way with 12 kills.

Adding to the offense was Baylee Wilson with nine kills, Heidi Sayler with seven, and Samantha Splonskowski with six.

Amber Vold chipped in with 1 kill and 1 ace.

Four Cowgirls were in double figures in digs, with Heidi Sayler getting 16, Breann Larson 14, Manning with 13, and Mackinzie Wilson with 12.

Breckenridge hosts Pelican Rapids, Minn., Thursday for their next match.

Thursday will also be Parents Night at the high school.
