The Richland County Sheriff's Office responded to an injury accident three miles north of Dwight on the Wild Rice bridge along Richland Road 81 on Saturday. A 1981 Ford grain truck hit a 2009 John Deere tractor head on, injuring the driver of the truck. James Fitzpatrick, 61, Abercrombie, was driving the grain truck and Perry Field, 21, Dent, Minn., was driving the tractor.
The truck was loaded with sugar beets at the time. The truck sustained severe damage to the driver side area. It was determined totaled. Fitzpatrick was trapped in the grain truck for a short time.
The tractor sustained damage estimated at $25,000.
Fitzpatrick was taken to St. Francis Healthcare Campus in Breckenridge for minor injuries.
Field was not injured.
This accident remains under investigation by the Richland County Sheriff's Office.
Also responding to the accident was Dwight Fire and Rescue.
