Perham takes cross country titles
by Daily News Staff
The Bois de Sioux Golf Club was the site for this year’s Heart of Lakes Conference Cross Country Meet Tuesday. The day saw Class A powerhouse Perham take both the Boys and the Girls team titles, as well as the Individual Medalist in both the Boys and the Girls race.
In the girls race, Perham Senior Maddie McClellan took first place honors with a time of 15:11. Pacing the Cowgirls was Kelsey Dahlgren, followed closely by Kacey Herder, Megan Hansen, and Jacie Jawaski, Emily Hendrickson, Regan Whitney and Blaire Lindberg rounded out the placing for the Cowgirls.
“We knew coming in that Perham was very talented," head coach Randy Berndt said. "We talked about running our own races and shooting for our season best. The girls responded tremendously, with big chunks of time knocked off their times. They left it all out on the course, which is all I could ask."
On the boys side, Perham’s Sam Stoll was the medalist, running the course in a time of 16:38.77. Breckenridge’s Mark Niesche ran his fastest time of the year, on his way to a 38th place finish.
“Mark and I visited about what he wanted to accomplish, and he did it, running his best time of the season, just missing the 20 minute mark by one second,” coach Berndt said.
The Breckenridge junior high boys were led by Garrett Marple, followed by Zach Hasse and Zach Rittenhouse. For the girls, Carmen Tischer and Britta Manning placed seventh and 10th, respectively.
The Cowgirls and Cowboys return to the course on Thursday, Oct. 29, participating in their section meet in Long Prairie, Minn.
