Beet truck drivers should also obey the laws

Dear Editor:

On TV, they keep telling all of us drivers to be careful, and watch out for the beet trucks. When are they going to get after the beet truck drivers?

I have followed numerous beet trucks around the 210 Bypass and very few of them obey the speed limit in the 40 mph or the 45 mph zones. The only time they do is when they're behind us, and then all we can see in the rear-view mirror is the grill of their trucks. They're following too close!

Where we live, we can see the four-way stop on Highways 75 and 210. There's been quite a few close calls there because the trucks don't stop. They lay on their horns if a car goes in front of them. Twice now this year we've seen a car just make it because the beet trucks went straight through without stopping.

Yes, we should all be careful whenever we're driving. But the beet truck drivers should also obey the laws and be careful, just like the rest of us.
