Myrtle “Myrt” Vondal, 91, Breckenridge, Minn., formerly Wahpeton, N.D., died Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009, at St. Francis Healthcare Campus-Home, Breckenridge, with her family at her side.

Funeral service was at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 20 at Evergreen United Methodist Church, Wahpeton, with the Rev. Paul Baker officiating.

Visitation was from 5-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19 with a 7 p.m. prayer service at the Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton; also, visitation was Tuesday one hour before the service at the church.

Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Wahpeton.

Myrtle was the daughter of Harold and Beulah (Kintz) Scott, born Feb. 17, 1918, in Walhalla, N.D. She grew up and graduated from Walhalla High School and taught in a country school by Walhalla. On Oct. 24, 1940, she married Leo Vondal in Walhalla. After Leo returned from the service in WWII they moved to Wahpeton, N.D., where Leo co-owned Wahpeton Electric. Myrtle was a busy homemaker raising six children. She later attended business courses and started employment at North Dakota State College of Science Library, a job she thoroughly enjoyed. Leo died Nov. 27, 1978, and Myrt continued to live in Wahpeton. She later entered the Pioneer Senior Cottages in Fergus Falls, Minn., in July of 2004, the Cottages in Breckenridge in June of 2006, and St. Frances Nursing Home, Breckenridge, in October of 2008, where she has since resided.

Myrt and Leo owned a lake home at Ottertail Lake, Minn., for many years and she loved the time they spent there with family and friends. She had a group of dear friends she socialized and traveled with. She also did service and volunteer work for the VFW Auxiliary, Elkettes and St. Francis Hospital. She was a strong, energetic, giving person and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Myrt is survived by: her two sons and four daughters, Karen (Earl) Langendorfer, Casper, Wyo., Carris (Michelle) Vondal, Chantilly, Va., Vicki (Mark) Williams, Casper, Dawn (Joseph Graf) Anderson, Minneapolis, Minn., Paula (Brad) Bakken, Wahpeton; Kevin (Barb) Vondal, Wahpeton; her sister, Bernice (Harold) Kurtz, West Fargo, N.D.; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Leo; an infant, son; brothers, Paul and Don; and her sister, Viola.
