Claribel Lueck, 88

Claribel Lueck, 88, Fergus Falls, Minn., died Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009, at the Pioneer Retirement Community in Fergus Falls.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Fergus Falls, with the Revs. Noel Herr and Craig Palach officiating.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Burial will be a St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in rural Fergus Falls.

Claribel Ida Hajny was born July 31, 1921, in Breckenridge to Vlady and Clara (Wahl) Hajny.

On Feb. 14, 1940, she married James Lueck and they were married for 63 years. In 1948 they moved to a farm in Friberg Township, Otter Tail County, and in 1964, purchased their farm on Pleasant Lake, Minn. James died Oct. 29, 2003.

Claribel was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid. She was a 4-H Leader for Aurdal Club for 10 years and helped start Pairs and Squares Dance Club. Her many flower gardens were her greatest passion and she was known for her jams, jellies and dill pickles. She participated in the Otter Tail County Fair with her homegrown flowers and produce, and it was common for Claribel to can 300-400 quarts of dill pickles each year. She also enjoyed making wedding and birthday cakes for every occasion – never from a mix — as well as crafts and sewing.

She is survived by: a son, Howard (Michelle) Lueck of Underwood, Minn.; a daughter, Carol (Sanford) Emery of Sauk Rapids, Minn.; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Lueck of St. Cloud, Minn.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, James; a son, Alan; two infant children; and two sisters, Dorothy Abbott and JoAnn Berg.

Memorials are preferred to Lutheran Island Camp or St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery Fund.
