Charles J. Gira, 76, Fargo, N.D., died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2, in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Fargo.

There will be a visitation from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1 in Boulger Funeral Home from followed by the prayer service at 7 p.m.; also, 1 hour prior to the service in the church on Monday.

Charles was born on June 18, 1933, in Mantador, N..,D to Engelbert (Bert) and Marie Pausch Gira. Charles graduated from Wyndmere High School in 1951. He entered the military in Fort Riley, Kan., in 1954 and was honorably discharged in Fort Carson, Colo., in 1956. He served as a U.S. Army medic. He graduated from North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton in 1958.

Charles was a lifelong electrician and a union member of IBEW 1426, a job he pursued well over 40 years. He worked for Eckblad Electric in Williston, N.D., from 1958-1961. He worked on the Minute Man Missile Silos and multiple electrical businesses including Western Area Power from 1980-1995 in West Fargo, N.D.

Charles married Janice Kern on Sept. 20, 1969, in Wadena, Minn., at the United Methodist Church.

Charles was a long time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fargo. He had a love for camping, fishing and watching high school sports. He had a passion for playing cards, dominos and spending time with his grandchildren.

Charles is survived by: his loving wife, Janice, Fargo; children, Mary (Chad) Moen, Fargo, David (Vicki) Gira, Fargo, and Debbie (Rick) Collins, Middleburg, Fla.; one sister; one brother; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Charles was preceded in death by: his parents; two sisters; and two brothers.

Arrangements entrusted to the care of Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo.
