Elaine Muehlberg, 80, Wyndmere, N.D., died unexpectedly Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, at Wyndmere.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, at Peace Lutheran Church, Barney, N.D., with the Rev. Morris W. Stephens Jr. officiating.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30 with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, N.D., and one hour before the service at the church on Saturday.

Burial will be at Elk Creek Cemetery, Wyndmere.

Elaine was born Sept. 9, 1929, at Wyndmere, the daughter of Erling and Barbara (Syverson) Johnson. She attended school in rural Wyndmere and graduated from Wyndmere High School. She taught school in rural Wyndmere. On Nov. 24, 1950, she married Milton Muehlberg. They lived at rural Wyndmere and moved into Wyndmere in 1981. Elaine worked at several jobs in the area including Anderson’s Café and Budget Dry Cleaners, which she later owned and operated. Milton died in May of 1986. Elaine worked at 3M in Wahpeton for several years and retired from there. Most recently, and for the last several years, she worked in the cafeteria at Wyndmere School for a couple of hours each day. She thoroughly enjoyed working with the kitchen ladies and especially loved seeing all the children everyday.

Elaine was a member of Peace Lutheran Church and was a great fan of sports; especially watching her grandchildren in all of their activities, the Green Bay Packers, and the University of North Dakota Sioux. She loved to play pinochle and her family was the center of her life.

Elaine is survived by: her four children, Doug (Joyce) Muehlberg, Greenfield, Mass., Paul (Beth) Muehlberg, Grand Forks, N.D., Brian (Cheryl) Muehlberg, Wyndmere, and Shelley (Ted) Mauch, Wyndmere; 12 grandchildren, Corey Muehlberg, Amanda Muehlberg, Eric Muehlberg, Jacob Muehlberg, John Muehlberg, Andrew Muehlberg, Hannah Muehlberg, Kylie Muehlberg, Lindsey Muehlberg, Lucas Mauch, Tracy Mauch and Nicole Mauch; and her brother, Imer Johnson, Wyndmere; her sisters, Irene Hager, Barney, and Alta Luebke, Wyndmere.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband Milton; her brothers, Otto and LaVern “Charlie” Johnson.
