Kinship of Richland-Wilkin Counties will partner with Fargo-based Web Marketer Jen Haas for the second year in a row to offer Twin Town shoppers a unique experience.

Residents are welcomed to peruse the second annual "Shop at Home" event Saturday, Nov. 7, which features regional home-based businesses which support the mission of Kinship.

"It's almost tripled from last year. We have 23 vendors committed to the 'at home' event," said Rebekah Christensen, Kinship director.

The event is also a fundraiser for Kinship, as each business has donated an item to a silent auction, which will be up throughout "Shop at Home" from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m at the Wahpeton Community Center. Kinship kids and mentors will also be running a concession stand serving barbecues, chips, bars, coffee and lemonade.

Christensen said additional items have been donated to the silent auction, including a handmade wooden toy chest, a handmade quilt and two tickets to see the Minnesota Twins play at Target Field next season.

To date, the Kinship program has 40 youth/mentor matches — the highest since the program began.

"But we also have more kid applications coming in than ever before," Christensen said. "People are going through hard times and looking for support for their family and kids."

Prior to the Kinship event in 2008, Haas said the partnership between Kinship and the 'at home' businesses is a "win, win situation" because the individuals running the businesses may be able to suggest a mentor or spread the word about the program.

Some of the businesses participating in "Shop at Home" include Avon, Arbonne, Mary Kay, Scentsy Wickless Candles, Tastefully Simple, Watkins, Tupperware, Cookie Lee Jewelry, Signature Homestyles and Pampered Chef.
