Fargo South downs Wahpeton, 3-0

The Wahpeton Huskies volleyball team closed out its regular season schedule Tuesday night with a match against Fargo-South.

The Bruins downed the Huskies 3-0 in part with strong play at the net and a number of Huskies errors.

"We played well," Huskies head coach Jodi Kleven said. "We just made too many errors. We gave away too many points.”

In the first set, the Huskies built an early 6-2 lead.

Kelsey Kleven got a kill in the run to start the set and Fargo-South errors helped the Huskies build the lead.

But the Bruins came back to tie the score and went ahead for good at 11-10.

Kleven got another kill later in the set.

Katelyn Kleven added a block and Lacey Gebrow also hit a winner, but the Bruins prevailed 25-16.

The second set was a close contest from the start.

The set featured eight tie scores, with the latest at 10-10.

Cameron Schroeder and Jordyn Braun hit winning shots early in the set, while Jocie Fisher and Kelsey and Katelyn Kleven got kills later to keep the Huskies in the set.

Fargo-South built a 20-14 lead before the Huskies came back to tie the score at 23.

But a Bruins kill and a Wahpeton return that went long provided the final two points in a 25-23 Bruin win.

In the third set, the Bruins took an early lead at 5-3.

Wahpeton stayed in the set until they trailed 9-8.

At that point, the Bruins outscored the Huskies 10-2 and put the set out of reach.

Fisher hit a winning shot for a point and Katelyn Kleven served an ace to cut into the Bruins lead at 24-16, but a Wahpeton block attempt fell out of bounds to give the Bruins the set 25-16 and the match, 3-0.

Wahpeton now gets ready for the EDC tournament which starts Thursday, Nov. 12 in Fargo at the Civic Memorial Auditorium.

The Huskies will go into the tournament as the No. 6 seed and will either face West Fargo or Fargo-South.
