Ardith (Ardie) Joyce Mattson, 61, Fargo, N.D., died Nov. 4, 2009, at her home in Fargo.

The funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Lidgerwood, N.D., with the Rev. Joseph Crosswhite officiating.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8 with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service at Holy Cross and on Monday one hour prior to services at the church.

Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Lidgerwood.

Pallbearers are Jerry and Don Borgen, Kevin Schiltz, Dale David, Jesse, Bo and Aaron Frolek. Honorary pallbearers are all of Ardie’s friends and caregivers from Hospice and Friendship, Inc. Special music by Curt Brownlee.

Ardie was born Feb. 25, 1948, to Harold and Hertha (David) Mattson in Lidgerwood. Ardie lived in Lidgerwood with her parents until the early 1970s when her father became ill and her mother was not able to care for her. She lived in Grafton, N.D., before moving to Fargo where she had been under the care of Friendship, Inc. Ardie was a special needs person who brought love to everyone she came in contact with. Ardie was active in the community in which she lived.

She often participated in Special Olympics, she volunteered and worked through Friendship at various places during her time with them. She was a special lady who made friends easily and helped everyone she met become a better person for having known her. While growing up in Lidgerwood she enjoyed going to the lake with her family to fish and picnic.

She loved to wander the neighborhood where she lived and often stopped in at the neighbors who always gave her milk and cookies. After moving to Fargo, Ardie loved visiting her mother and sister’s in Minneapolis. She enjoyed entertaining her many friends at Friendship, doing crafts at her day support, shopping, baking cookies, listening to music, attending church, and just hanging out with her friends and staff where she lived.

Ardie is survived by: five sisters and one brother, Delores (Frank) Hogan, Harlingen, Texas, Mavis Gettel, Sterling, Colo., Shirley Ebel-Meeker, Princeton, N.J., Sharon (Daniel) Frolek, Lidgerwood, Dorothy Harn, Spokane, Wash., and Leroy (Viola) Ebel, Rapid City, S.D.

Ardie was preceded in death by: her parents, Harold and Hertha Mattson; three sisters, Wilma (Ray) Strege, Arlene (Gerald Ahmann), Marcella (Cecil) Borgen; and one brother, Arthur (Karen) Borgen.

Frank Family Funeral Home of Lidgerwood is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
