With the help of Job Service of North Dakota, Bobcat Co. has begun accepting applications for the plant set to open in 2010 on Imation's former campus in Wahpeton.

Bobcat posted the ad for employment Oct. 29, according to the company's spokesperson Laura Ness-Owens Friday.

"Our intention was to have training and begin working in the month of January. Operations will begin in mid-January," Ness-Owens said, anticipating training could being as early as December.

The company is currently looking to hire machinists, assemblers, material handlers and maintenance mechanics for the plant. They are set to employ 50-60 people who will be manufacturing valves and cylinders for payloaders and excavators.

Merlin Beto, Job Service director in Wahpeton, said it's not surprising the job posting is generating a lot of interest.

"Bobcat's got a good name, they've been in the state for many years, they offer good benefits and very competitive pay," he said, not able to specify exactly how many applications have been filed. "It's a nice boost for our community."

Bobcat has requested all applications be filed on paper. Beto said people interested in any of the positions can pick up an application at the Wahpeton office and it must be turned in at the same locations.

"We have been periodically sending them up to the human resources director for Bobcat," Beto said. "It sounds like the applications will be divided up between the prospective managers."
