BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — The general manager of the Ralph Engelstad Arena says the business has no role in a lawsuit that supports the University of North Dakota’s Fighting Sioux nickname.

Jody Hodgson says the arena is not paying the fees of the attorney who sued on behalf of eight members of the Spirit Lake Sioux tribe.

The arena features the Fighting Sioux nickname and thousands of American Indian head logos. Nickname supporter Ralph Engelstad contributed $100 million to build the arena.

North Dakota’s Board of Higher Education is considering whether to dump the nickname and logo. The lawsuit filed by the Spirit Lake group says any decision should be delayed until November 2010.

Grand Forks attorney Patrick Morley says he’s representing the Spirit Lake tribal members for a reduced fee.

Morley has done legal work for the Ralph Engelstad Arena, but he says the arena is not paying him for the Spirit Lake case.
