Mary Ann Crawford, 86, Otter Tail Lake, Minn., and formerly of Wahpeton, N.D., died Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at the Perham Memorial Home, Perham, Minn.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14 at St. John’s Catholic Church, Wahpeton, with the Rev. Dale F. Lagodinski as celebrant.

Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the church.

There will be a Catholic Daughters and Christian Mother’s Rosary at 10 a.m.

Burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Wahpeton.

MaryAnn Novetzke was born Feb. 23, 1923, in Wahpeton to Leo and Rose (Wacha) Novetzke. She attended St. John’s Grade School and graduated from Wahpeton High School in 1940. She then attended the North Dakota State College of Science, Wahpeton, in office management. After her education she moved to Washington, D.C., and worked in the office of the Director of War Production for four years. President Franklin D. Roosevelt was holding office at that time and she visited the White House twice with the Director of Production. On Sept. 10, 1945, she married William F. Crawford at the Walter Reed All Faith’s Chapel in Washington. The couple lived in Georgia and Alabama before returning to Wahpeton in 1952 where they made their home and raised their four children. Bill died Aug. 24, 1972. After the children were grown MaryAnn worked with Tri County Special Services from 1972 until her retirement in 1982. The family summered at their Ottertail Lake home where they shared fond family memories.

MaryAnn was a life-long member of St. John’s Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters and Christian Mothers, VFW Auxiliary, Board of Directors of the Leach Library, Girl Scout and Boy Scout leader, Investment Club and Bridge Clubs in the Wahpeton and Otter Tail Lake area.

She is lovingly survived by: a son and two daughters, Robert Crawford, Tempe, Ariz., Mollie Crawford, Phoenix, Ariz., and Sara (Tim) Frederick, Otter Tail Lake; two granddaughters, Emma Frederick and Courtney Crawford; and a grandson, William Crawford; her sister, Loretta “Birdie” (Robert) Merchant, Minnetonka, Minn.; and two brothers, Leon (Dorothy) Novetzke, Battle Lake, Minn., and Bill (Mary) Novetzke, Sioux Falls, S.D.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, William; a daughter, Laurie S. Crawford; and a son-in-law, Robert Nelson.

Arrangements are entrusted to the care of the Vertin-Munson Wahpeton Funeral Home.
