Signe Hansen, 89, Wahpeton, N.D., died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at her home.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Monday, Nov. 16 at Bethel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton, with the Rev. Kathryn Rothman officiating.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15 at Willow Creek Chapel, Wahpeton (920 3rd Ave. N.) and one hour before the service at the church on Monday.
Burial will be at Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton.
Arrangements are with Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.
Signe was born Aug. 26, 1920, at Maddock, N.D., the daughter of Sigurd and Laura (Martinsdatter Larsen) Simenson. She grew up and attended school at Maddock. Signe married Clarence Hansen on Aug. 26, 1942, at Minnewaukan, N.D. The couple lived at Fort Sill, Okla., while Clarence was in the service. After Clarence’s discharge they moved to Wahpeton in 1946 where they raised their family and Clarence attended North Dakota State College of Science and later owned and operated a business in Wahpeton. Signe continued to live at her home in Wahpeton after Clarence died July 6, 2002.
Signe was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church. She enjoyed flower gardening, bingo and cooking, in particular baking her Norwegian desserts.
Signe is survived by: her three children, Jean (Mike) Patterson, Bullhead City, Ariz., Jerry (Kay) Hansen, Dublin, Ohio, and Ken (Wilma) Hansen, Wahpeton; five grandchildren, Adam, Amy, Sheryl, Cindy and Katie; three great-grandchildren, Ethan, Marcus and Sonia; her sister, Edith Partyke, Hansville, Wash.; and her special friend and neighbor, Bud Chapman.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband Clarence; and her nine brothers and sisters, Inga, Melvin, Leonard, Mabel, Virgil, Helga, Edwin, Helen and Arlene.
