Open house features stained glass

Area art enthusiasts gathered at Walcott Saturday for AB Art Gallery's 17th annual holiday open house, featuring local stained glass designer Lisa Anderson.
Anderson, who attends AB Art Gallery's open house each holiday season, thinks its a treat to be showcasing her work in the two-story, 2,000 square foot site, which houses a variety of art forms.
The Bismarck native first developed a taste for stained glass art in an amateur class she took in Fargo, hoping she could relieve some of the stress taken on from her challenging corporate job.
"It was fun to do something totally different that I've been doing the last 20 years," Anderson said.
In 2001, Anderson made the decision to leave her career and join the art world full time. She said it was the diversity of creating stained glass that drew her in. She creates both traditional stained glass windows and panes, but has recently started to make ornaments and garden art.
"As I'm making them they seem to develop a personality," Anderson said of her most recent garden art pieces. "I end up naming them all. I never thought I would do that."
Her garden art pieces, she said are made with bright colored beading, which convey certain characteristics. Peacock and Southwest Bouquet are names of a few of her most recent pieces.
"No two things are the same," Anderson said.
The holiday open house is set to continue Sunday, Nov. 15 through 5 p.m. Anderson's art will continue to be displayed throughout November. AB Art Gallery is open Saturdays from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sundays from 1-5 p.m.
