Lucas Wade Allmendinger, 28, Wahpeton, N.D., died Tuesday, Nov. 10 at the Palliative Care Unit, Meritcare South Campus, Fargo, N.D., after a courageous year long battle with brain cancer.

The funeral Mass will be at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 14 at St. John’s Catholic Church, Wahpeton, with the Rev. Dale Lagodinski as celebrant.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13 with a 7 p.m. prayer vigil and one hour before the service on Saturday, all at St. John’s Catholic Church.

Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Wahpeton.

Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton is in charge of arrangements.

Lucas Wade Allmendinger was born May 31, 1981, at Breckenridge, Minn., the son of Dean and Jonita “Jo” (Erker) Allmendinger. Luke grew up in Wahpeton where he attended St. John’s Catholic Grade School and graduated from Wahpeton High School in 2000, where he participated in hockey, track and graduated with honors. Luke attended Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Okla., where he obtained dual degrees in architecture and architectural engineering. While growing up, Luke enjoyed working at the family business, Dean’s Landscaping. He interned at Land Elements during college and in June of 2008 started employment with Kiewit Construction, located in Omaha, Neb.

Luke enjoyed many outdoor activities such as water sports, snowboarding and golfing. He was gifted with a unique eye for design and developed a strong interest in photography. He participated in the Big Brothers Big Sisters Program and ASTEK, both youth mentorship programs. He loved to spend time at the lake cabin with family and friends, especially with his nieces and nephews.

Luke is survived by: his parents, Dean and Jo Allmendinger, Wahpeton; his two brothers and their families, Mike (Nichole) Allmendinger, children, Jake and Finley, Fargo, Shane (Laura) Allmendinger, children, Karly, Cade and Celia, Moorhead, Minn.; his paternal grandfather, Bill Allmendinger, Dodge, N.D.; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by: his maternal grandparents, Joe and Theresa Erker; and his paternal grandmother, Viola Allmendinger.
