The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) held a bid opening Friday for a number of projects, including Dakota Avenue Reconstruction in Wahpeton set to start in spring 2010.

Six companies bid on the project, which includes total reconstruction from the Dakota/Minnesota Avenue bridge to 12th Street North. In addition to paving, the project will include new street lights, signals, signage and underground work in the storm and sanitary sewer.

"It was a pretty good turnout," said City Engineer Randy Nelson. "Bids were fairly tight and not a great amount of discrepancies. Two of them were under the engineer's estimate."

The low bidder, Duininch Bros, Inc., Prinsburg, Minn., bid $8,128,213 on the project, approximately $600,000 less than the engineer's estimate. The high bidder, Dakota Underground Company, Fargo, was in at over $10 million.

No company has been awarded the project. The NDDOT will make their determination after qualifying the lowest responsible bidder.
