Jamie Mauch and Bembry helped the Wildcats grab a quick 11-8 lead.
But the Mavericks caught up and got their own lead, 22-19.
Hanif Nixon-Hughes and Aaron Morris gave the Wildcats the lead back, as the teams played a close gave through the mid-way point of the first half.
With the score tied 25-25, the Mavericks went on a 7-0 run and eventually built a nine point advantage by half time, 34-25.
Morris hit a three-point shot to start the second half and NDSCS got to within four points early on.
But the Mavericks extended their lead to 43-36.
At that point, Mauch, Bembry and Morris scored seven straight points for the Wildcats to tie the game.
MCTC went back up by eight points, but again the Wildcats came back.
Mauch hit a three-point shot and Bembry scored again to pull the Wildcats to within three.
In the end, the Wildcats defensive pressure was too much for Minneapolis and NDSCS put themselves in a position to win the game.
A Mavericks turnover gave the Wildcats a chance to take the lead.
They did just that on the shot by Bembry.
After a missed three-point shot by the Mavericks, Steward went to the free-throw line with 28 seconds left to give the Wildcats a 58-55 lead.
The Mavericks missed another three-pointer and the Wildcats got the win.
Coach Schumacher said it was a good win against a tough opponent.
"They (MCTC) were ranked No. 1 in the country in Division 3 basketball," Schumacher said. "I think they've only lost three times at home in the last 7 or 8 seasons."
The Wildcats host Ridgewater College Tuesday at 8 p.m. for their next game.
Wildcats scoring leaders:
Bembry 16
Mauch 11
Morris 11
Nixon-Hughes 10
