But the Mavericks used a second half surge to down NDSCS 75-51.
"We didn't show our competitive edge," head coach Paulette Stein said. "Minneapolis played hard and I thought they had more energy than us."

Both teams traded leads and there were nine ties before half time.
Groen hit a three-point shot early in the game to give NDSCS a 7-4 lead.
After a 9-9 tie, Hannah Wenaas hit shot to give the Lady Wildcats a 11-9 lead.
Groen had 10 of the Lady Wildcats' 14 points by the mid-way point of the first half and NDSCS had their biggest lead of the game at 14-11.
But The Mavericks answered with points every time NDSCS got ahead.
The Mavericks' biggest lead of the first half was four points, at 21-17.
The Lady Wildcats had their last lead of the game, 28-27, as the Mavericks took a 29-28 lead into the break.
In the second half, the Mavericks started on a 8-0 run as the Wildcats started the half shooting cold.
MCTC kept the pressure up and extended their lead to 13 points.
Karis Phillips tried to keep the Lady Wildcats in the game by hitting four three-pointers in the second half.
Groen added two three-pointers of her own, after being held scoreless for the first half of the second half.
The Mavericks got up by as many as 20 points, but the Lady Wildcats cut the lead to as little as 12.
But, the Lady Wildcats could not overcome a slow start to the second half, and the Mavericks got the win.
"We made a nice run in the second half, but we we didn't come out well," Stein said. "We cut into their lead, but we had a couple of bad passes and things didn't work out. We hope to get back on the winning track Tuesday."
The Lady Wildcats host Ridgewater College Tuesday at the Blikre Activities Center starting at 6 p.m.
