Master Tax Adviser Velma Bjorgum at H&R Block, Wahpeton, suggests having all Social Security numbers, dates of birth, children's full names, 1099 and W2 forms at your tax appointment.
"That's where we have the most problems, when people don't have the correct information on children and filing income," Bjorgum said.

Students can file the 1099T form for tuition and fees paid on college education. In addition to the 1099T form, students can list books and required supplies for college. Separate from the 1099T is the American Opportunity Credit, form 8863, which can give up to a 40 percent refund.
Bjorgum has seen an increase in earned income tax credit because the government now allows a third qualifying child to be listed.
"It will be a larger earned income credit," she said. "Some tax payers will notice their withholdings are lower because of the Making Work Pay credit. It affects people with multiple jobs and married couples."
All tax forms are available at local tax preparers like H&R Block, but forms can also be found on the Internet through sites like TurboTax or the Internal Revenue Service.
