The North Dakota State college of Science (NDSCS) women's and men's basketball teams swept Dakota State College of Bottineau Sunday.

The Lady Wildcats beat the Lady Lumberjacks, 76-68, while the Wildcats downed the Lumberjacks, 87-68.

"I couldn't be happier with the way we played this weekend," Lady Wildcats head coach Paulette Stein said. "We did struggle for parts of the game, but we found a way to win."

In the women's game, the lead changed hands twice and there were four tie scores early.

Freshman guard Karis Phillips hit two free throws midway through the first half to give NDSCS a 16-14 lead.

Lady Wildcats sophomore guard Megan Groen, who led the Lady Wildcats with 23 points, hit a 3-point shot to give NDSCS a 7 point lead with five minutes remaining in the half, and the Lady Wildcats went into the break leading 37-31.

In the second half, the Lady Lumberjacks went on a 11-4 run to start the half and briefly grabbed a 42-41 lead.

NDSCS came back on a shot by Phillips after a Bottineau turnover.

The Lady Wildcats steadily built their lead. When sophomore forward Ashley Holmstrom hit a shot with 1:15 left to play, the Lady WIldcats enjoyed their largest lead of the game, 71-61, before closing out the win.

In the men's game, Bottineau jumped out to a quick 5-2 lead, in part on a 3-point shot by former Wahpeton Huskie and current Lumberjack freshman Jordan Ralph.

Ralph finished the game with 5 points.

The lead changed hands three times early in the first half before the Wildcats went on a 11-0 run.

Wildcats freshman guard Hanif Nixon-Hughes scored 5 points in the run, while sophomore forwards Terry Bembry and Aaron Morris also contributed to the run.

Nixon-Hughes and Morris each had 12 points by halftime, as the Wildcats led 47-34.

"I thought we did a good job of bouncing back after our loss in Williston (on Saturday)," Wildcats head coach Scott Schumacher said. "Bottineau is a good team and they played us tough. But I think our athleticism wore them down."

In the second half, the Wildcats opened up with a 10-4 run to extend their lead.

The Wildcats led by as many as 24 points in the second half.

NDSCS returns home Wednesday for a make-up doubleheader with the Jamestown College jv, starting at 6 p.m.
